This is my fifteen year old sister, Hannah. She has a cyst on her pineal gland, which is in the middle of her brain. (From what I understand, a cyst is like a tumor but filled with liquid.) We’ve known about it for about two years, and it constantly gives her horrific headaches, that can last weeks. Her vision is getting very bad because of it too, and so is her quality of life, she’s started fainting and had a couple seizures recently. Just last week we had a Skype conference with one of the two neurosurgeons, in the world, who would potentially perform the surgery to remove it. (A lot of people have trouble getting this surgery approved, but because Hannah’s is one of the largest cysts in one of the youngest patients, it was approved.) Praise God. The surgery will take place in June, but only if we can pay the $50,000. We really need help raising this money.

Do you remember SOPA? The bill that would give government the right to spy on internet activity without warrant, and let them censor “unwanted” sites by blocking people’s access to them?

Meet its twin. But this time it’s all the more frightening; the House has passed it despite Obama’s threats to veto. And by an alarmingly large margin, at that. CISPA threatens the US constitution’s guarantees of due privacy and free speech, permitting any government agency to access and transfer of vast amounts of data- from internet records to even the content of personal e-mails, and all without obtaining a warrant.

What’s even more disgusting than this bill actually making through the House is some of the arguments used to help it’s passage, and comments made by one of the bill’s biggest supporters admitting the bill helps big business while insulting opposers (whose is also speculated to have personal reasons for wanting CISPA made into law).

This threatens every element of your online presence. From personal emails to general activity, any government agency will have the ability to go fishing without consequence.

Please, PLEASE, sign the following petitions. You don’t even have to be a US citizen to sign most of them or act against CISPA, and please keep in mind that if this shit flies in America, who knows what country might use its example to do it, too.

This is my martial arts school. Every year we hold a summer camp for adults (18+). We spend five days at a retreat center in Michigan learning western martial arts and hitting each other with swords.

Since tumblr is a pretty geeky place of varried interests, I thought I’d throw this out in case anyone is interested in joining us.

Your first year at camp you will complete our White Belt program, learning to fight with knife and sword and shield. By the end of camp, you will be able to spar and participate in meele with the rest of the school. In addition to the white belt material, you will have lessons and fighting experiences related to this year’s theme, Greek fighting styles.

This year’s camp is August 7-11. The price for this 5 day camp is $435, which includes all your meals, lodging on site, and full days on instruction.

In a shocking March 20 blog post titled “Censorship, Environmentalism and Steubenville,” University of Rochester economics professor Steven Landsburg questioned the harm of raping an unconscious woman who may not remember the attack, and wondered why rapists should not “reap the benefits” of women’s bodies.

Landsburg is using his position as a professor of economics to promote rape, and the University is defending his right to do so. We demand he be fired immediately!

Landsburg’s pro-rape argument is uniquely sickening — he’s saying that rape is a net benefit to society as long as the victim is unconscious, because an unconscious victim is not negatively impacted by rape whereas the rapist benefits. He then argues that unconscious-victim rape should be outright legalized, because this would create an incentive for rapists to render victims “safely” unconscious before raping them.

This guy is a grade-A sicko.

Even putting aside his idea that mental trauma < physical trauma (which is a pretty big thing to ignore), does he not understand how rape works? Does he not understand at the very least the potential physical repercussions (pregnancy, bleeding, infection, inflammation, etc.)? Even if his thesis - that physical trauma is more important than mental - was correct, rendering someone unconscious and raping them is far from the “safe” situation he seems to think it is.

AND THAT’S NOT EVEN GOING INTO HIS IDEA THAT MENTAL TRAUMA IS SOMEHOW THE SAME THING AS BEING REALLY ANNOYED BY SOMETHING

OR THAT BODILY INTEGRITY SHOULDN’T BE RESPECTED BECAUSE “LIGHT PENETRATES ME ALL THE TIME”

If you are an animal lover or keeper, you NEED to do this. Don’t even think twice. Sign it. This is not a petition. Your signature gets a letter sent to your state’s congressmen, in email or if you so choose, as a physical letter as well, so do not pass over it because you think petitions are worthless. These are your babies this bill is targeting. Your birds, your fish, your reptiles, your amphibians, even your precious fuzzy sugar gliders and chinchillas.

HR996 is the re-written form of HR669, but rewritten means nothing but bringing it back to threat status. It is still as harmful as ever, aiming to take exotics away from the people who love them, certain to put many out of work, demolish millions of dollars of revenue, criminalize exotic pet owners for doing something simple like taking their pets with them, and risk the lives of every animal that does not make the white list. All species are treated as guilty until proven innocent, so you can guarantee not many will make the white list, and even fewer will be permanently banished to the black list for a reasonable purpose.

Think this could actually do some good against invasive species? Think again. If this bill was actually to deal with invasive species by adding them to a black list criminalizing their importation and interstate transport, it would be redundant. We already have the Lacey Act for that, and it operates in a more sensible manner: innocent until proven guilty. HR996 is a bill targeted specifically at taking exotic pets away from the people who love them.

Note that there is absolutely no mention of what is to happen to any animals that don’t make it on to the white list already in-country, nor mention for the keepers that already maintain such species. You can expect that the animals will NOT be protected, and that the very moment the opportunity would arise, they would be put to death.

If you are a reptile lover, it is ESPECIALLY up to you to step up to the plate. If you remember the HR669 fiasco, you will also remember that the death of the bill only gave rise to the years-fought and only wounded, not defeated, Python Ban. We are the BIGGEST targets. Our beloved pets are among the most misunderstood, and unlike insect or rodent-like pets they are assumed to be a murder happy public menace by the ignorant masses. We already lost our burms, condas, and rock pythons in the wake of HR669’s original form. LET’S NOT LOSE ONE MORE SPECIES.

As with the Python Ban and HR669, you can expect HSUS to be lobbying with all their might for this to pass. They have already proven they are not against tossing money and penning fiction disguised as scientific study to try and get their way. Not aware of what a sack of crap HSUS is? Do not assume that the sheer stupidity of this bill and its intentions means it will fail even if you don’t lift a finger. We already have seen that presented the right way, bans CAN happen. Learn from the Python Ban. Take action.

Even if you don’t keep exotics, you should still be concerned about and stand against the rights of others being stripped in ignorance and the lives of animals being endangered for nothing but baseless fear.

Whoa hey, important post I guess

I’ve been homeless since September 2012, basically I’ve had intense anxiety and depression and I failed my first year of University. I was really scared of telling my parents so when they found out I couldn’t go back to school this September they told me to leave (this is understandable because they both are out of work and also very poor so it’s not reasonable for them to sustain me as well).

I’ve been trying my best to find a job, I comb craigslist and government job sites on a regular basis but I haven’t had much luck, I don’t have any work experience (though I have a ton of volunteer experience!) and I make a bad first impression I think.

I don’t have any relatives in the country or friends that can take me in.

I’ve been pretty good at rationing the amount of money I have but I’ve more or less run out, I get a monthly cheque from the government for $22.75 but that’s not enough to feed me and pay for transport and stuff at this point.

What I’m getting at is I would really appreciate if you could donate even a small amount of money ($1.05 buys me a toasted buttered bagel!) or reblog this post as a signal boost.

I’ve set up a paypal account and I don’t know how paypal works but my e-mail for the account is czadecka@gmail.com (I set up a ‘charitable cause’ but I don’t know how to link it, I tried adding the button to my layout but when I clicked it it wouldn’t work)
